To begin with I want to say New Year
is celebrating around the world. But I want to tell you about Russian teenager traditional
and about China traditional of New Year celebration.
In Russia, New Year’s celebrations resemble the kind of
festivities you might see around Christmas in the U.S. There are Christmas
trees and a jolly figure called Ded Moroz. He resembles Santa Claus.
Families and friends hold lavish dinners and gift exchanges. These customs came
about after Christmas and other religious holidays were banned during
the Soviet era. Russian teens don’t go to school during the New Year
holidays and they can relax go out and watch New Year movies and send gifts to
each others.
Confucian cultures, such as China,
Vietnam and Korea, celebrate the lunar New Year, which usually falls in
February. The Chinese mark the New Year by hanging red lanterns. They give red
envelopes filled with money as tokens of goodwill. During Chinas New
Year holiday’s teenager also doesn’t go to school and they can hang out with
friends and send gifts to each others.
All in all we have a lot of different
cultures around the world and we should know about them.
